Memorial Day is a federal holiday created to honor those who have died in military service. Starting with the Civil War, the remembrance grew to encompass all Americans who have died in all of the nation’s wars and those who are currently serving. It is Monday, May 27th this year. Here is a list of ways Americans are planning to honor our military heroes this Memorial Day, including some ideas for you:
-Visit a cemetery and place flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.
-Visit memorials.
-Fly the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon.
-Fly the POW/MIA flag as well.
-Participate in a National Moment of Remembrance at 3pm to pause and think about the significance of the day.
-Renew a pledge to aid the widows, widowers and orphans of our fallen dead.
-Write a veteran and thank them for their service to our nation.
–Organize a community-wide observance.
-Honor a veteran with a brick at The National WWII Museum.
-Change your Facebook profile to an American flag. -Write a letter to the editor of a local newspaper to remind the community about the significance of Memorial Day. |
- US flag manufacturers have decided to discontinue all confederate products. They are our source for production, therefore we are unable to replenish our stock of any confederate items.
